This poem is dedicated to Mama

Recounting

The brevity of life is immensely humbling for all

An unwanted reminder of our humanity

When people we love and cherish leave this world

to enter the confines of eternity

We cry, weep, blame, frown, moan and hope

that she is peaceful and happy

Clutching to precious memories

of the love and care Mama showered

on her circle of family and friends

She would never forget you

Always there as a companion

A kind and understanding confidante

A pillar of strength

A beacon of light

Time’s tribulations and storms

She weathered them all

Out of love, she sacrificed

The Lord gave her strength

and the will to carry on

Despite the fervent hope

The inevitable still occurred

Taking comfort in the fact

That she is in safe hands

Amongst the angels

She will forever be etched

in our hearts and minds

There will never be another

As special as Mama
