The Fourth Overtures of Finality
Copyrights Reserved© LeX Productions 2005

The stillness of the night

Quietly overwhelming

The populace fast asleep

Everything seem so surreal

Sweet dreams and happiness

In stark contrast

The fears enveloping one's heart

Manifested in an imaginary golden rainbow

Laced with pitfalls

The cricket cheers

At the stroke of midnight

The sounds of nightfall

Speak volumes of sounds and signals

We only too often

Choose to ignore

Just like the silence within

Just like the hurt that permeate

The recesses of one's heart

One can constantly recount and regret

Or capture the silver lining of hope

Amidst the darkness

Dictating one's destiny

Before time runs out

All too suddenly, too swiftly

All of us are unknowingly absorbed

In the pursuit for perfection

For temporal wealth

For happiness that never lasts

The questions linger

In the dying seconds

Do things of impermanence matter?

Are the confines of one's heart

Lined with merely the wealth of bank balances?

The answer is concealed

In all its simplicity

Love, peace, health and hope

Happiness everlasting

One must constantly forgive and forget

Learn to love others

Learn to understand

Living each day to the fullest

With no eventual regrets

The Second Overtures of Finality

The understated magnificence of stars afar

The radiance of the setting sun in the distant horizons

The looming storm amidst heavy-laden clouds

The crushing of branches by the wrath of brutal winds

One cannot help but stare in awe

The essence of finality

Unknowingly encapsulated by all

We have taken them for granted

For too long a time

Can we fully comprehend

The utter fragility of our lives

The vulnerability of our dreams

The boundaries between the past, present, future

Are but thin threads of little substantiality

A subtle tinge of pink enlivens the sky

The warmth of morning sunshine

Held back by a chilling dawn breeze

The hinges of the window quiver ever so slightly

My gaze remains unwavering

Undeniably, we are

In constant preoccupation

With the temporal things of life

And its minute idiosyncrasies

But amidst innocuous exuberance

We fail to recognize life's limitations

Every day, every minute, every moment

The hourglass remains firmly overturned

Perhaps it is only when

We stare death in all its inevitability

With things coming into sharp focus

Like never before

Time remains but a precarious asset

Or a ravaging liability

Life is but a matter

Of how we treasure the minutes

And the seconds

Illustrations of the Storm

The blanket of sunshine

Energized by the fiery yellow orb

Dissipate ever so quickly

Into the pervading darkness of rainclouds

The trees, large and small

Shaken, pushed, tormented

By the wrath of the winds

Despite the forces of nature

Firm and stolid, they stay

The fleeting glances towards the sky

As people play with renewed urgency

The game is hardly finished

The heavens will wait

Illusions brutally crushed

As the skies open the floodgates

Unleashing raging torrents of raindrops

They hurtle towards the earth

With unbridled joy at newfound freedom

The hapless flapping of wings

The storm gives no chances

Home was in sight

Surrender not an option

The enthusiasm of the players

Doused like water hurled at a candle flame

They escape from the confines of shelter

In the nick of time

The rampant lightning flashes

Paint an invisible masterpiece

Only visible to the eyes of heaven above

Accompanied by the melody

Of the cascading raindrops

The immeasurable crystals

Fall relentlessly, constantly

Are they but tears of heaven

In immaculate disguise?

The azure blue skies seem merely but slim boundaries

Encroaching upon the realm of our minds

We imagine a world without pain

A world encapsulated by immense waves

Of peace, joy and happiness

A world where the poor no longer need to

Beg on dusty streets with grimy skeletal hands

Where the defeated are as good as victors

Where sensibility not folly reigns supreme

Where longevity truly equates happiness

A world sanctified

In childish innocence

We want to shape things far beyond

Yet our feet stay firmly rooted

Can we really dictate the future?

Or are these things destined to forever remain

Figments of our fertile imagination?

That question remains unanswered

But hope resides within the hearts of one and all

To envisage, to look beyond, to imagine

We can and we will

Surge past the cotton clouds

Towards the multitude of stars that lie beyond

Upon which many a child have wished

Just like we have before

Rain and Perspectives

As I amble along the pathway

Wind gingerly coursing through the strands of my hair

Dark clouds cast shadows over the sky

A mere spectator as the first drop makes its descent

Suddenly

Ever so suddenly

One can only wait with bated breath

The opening of the heavens

The fervent rain, the vociferous thunder-rolls

Accompanied by rapid flashes of lightning

Combine to create

An extravaganza of light and sound

As I now glance from my windowpane

The torrents of shimmering crystals unleashed

Upon the grounds of the Earth

And the little mushroom-like umbrellas

The sound of falling raindrops permeate the air

The crystals break, the puddles form

Trees and shrubs rejoice

Swaying in a celebratory dance

Visions of Rain

The torrents bring forth

An inner sense of calmness within me

The wind cuts its way through foliage

Sending forth a whirlwind of flying leaves and broken branches

My gaze firmly fixed upon the sky

As birds flap their rain-soaked wings

In fervent search for shelter amidst the storm

The clouds transcend all boundaries

Purposefully moving in a direction

Only they know

The raindrops bristle with

An infectious sense of exuberance and joy

Pelting the sidewalk incessantly

Even the great and mighty trees

Sway in meek submission

A layer of raindrops envelops

The green grass strands, the arrogant shrubs

They are rejuvenated, renewed once more

Rain brings forth new hope, new life

Lamentations and Regrets
Copyrights Reserved© LeX Productions 2005

As the cursory breeze sifts through the trees

Stroking my face ever so gently

I ponder upon moments past

Tinged in regret and bitterness

Over what might have been

Ruing decisions gone wrong

Lamenting the unneeded consequences

Golden windows of opportunity

Closed in youthful folly and haste

One can only look back

In utter regret and sorrow

The right words remain unsaid

Words that hurt take their place

Values of wisdom and sensibility

Why did we neglect them then?

Why?

Situations past and present

We have only too often

Blinded by bias and perceptions

Thrown our senses in wild abandon

Walked on the wrong path

To the boundaries of destruction

Perhaps we could turn back the hands of time

Erase this blanket of regret and anguish

Clawing at our hearts inexorably

And fill our hearts with joy once more

Perhaps

Defining Hope
Copyrights Reserved© LeX Productions 2005

A fresh breath of air everyday

The sliver of sunshine amidst dark shadows looming

The glistening stars in the menacing black skies

The oasis anchored in the desert of life

Hope epitomizes them all

When one feels weary, uninspired, discouraged

With a heart filled with anguish and regret

The finish line a mere speck in the faraway horizons

Innumerable odds rising against you in unison

Do you lift your hands in meek surrender?

Consign oneself to the throes of defeat and despondency?

We don’t

We don’t simply because of something

Something deeply entrenched in every heart

Irrepressible by any force

Unwavering through all times

It goes by the name of

Hope

It is the reason why

We don’t let falls stop us

Keeps us going despite overwhelming waves of adversities

Giving us the courage to press on

Towards goals, dreams and visions beyond

The Heart of Rain
Copyrights Reserved© LeX Productions 2005

As I smell the air afresh

The gift of a downpour amidst the sunshine

One can’t help but stare at the raindrops falling

In utter joy and amazement at nature’s beauty

Many have long ceased to admire

The very opulence, simplicity and essence

The unadulterated innocence and joy

The chrysanthemum above fades

Leaving rain-soaked trees swaying with the beat

The dark green leaves, the pitch dark skies

Saccharine raindrops falling in perfect rhythm

As spectators trickle off the leaf of little palm umbrellas

Little mirrors of silver shimmering on dry concrete frames

Defying comprehension and time

The heart of rain has longed to be free

Released from the grasp of the skies

It is now

As Raindrops Cascade
Copyrights Reserved© LeX Productions 2005

The quintessence of nature

Transcending time and logic

Raindrops make their way down

At moments of tense suspense

Clouds of innocence now sound

Its battle cry far and wide

Blanketing the morning sunshine

Impeccable darkness spreading across the skies

As the eye wanders toward

Flashes of lightning nearby

Roll of heavenly drums signal

Heralding the coming of rain

Birds scurry for shelter

As the thirsty grass awaits

Raindrops surge relentlessly

Flooding me with reminiscences

Victories and tears of past

Crushed hopes and broken dreams

Pain and agony amidst joy and exuberance

Glory, honour, regrets

Incessant waves unabated

One can only hope to transverse

The narrow tunnel of time

Correct what was not meant to be

Raindrops in crystal clarity

Are they tears of a distraught maiden

Fleeting thoughts of a wanderer

An orchestra’s cacophonic symphonies

Or merely feelings encapsulated

In little pods of rainwater

Perhaps nothing could ever compare

To the storm that rages within

One can only hope for peace

In the abyss of eternity

This poem is dedicated to Mama

Recounting

The brevity of life is immensely humbling for all

An unwanted reminder of our humanity

When people we love and cherish leave this world

to enter the confines of eternity

We cry, weep, blame, frown, moan and hope

that she is peaceful and happy

Clutching to precious memories

of the love and care Mama showered

on her circle of family and friends

She would never forget you

Always there as a companion

A kind and understanding confidante

A pillar of strength

A beacon of light

Time’s tribulations and storms

She weathered them all

Out of love, she sacrificed

The Lord gave her strength

and the will to carry on

Despite the fervent hope

The inevitable still occurred

Taking comfort in the fact

That she is in safe hands

Amongst the angels

She will forever be etched

in our hearts and minds

There will never be another

As special as Mama
